Housing Search: Childcare Data Added to Real Estate Listings
Redfin and Winnie integrated early care provider data into property pages, allowing buyers to view licensed programs within a 10-mile radius before making offers.

Redfin has integrated childcare provider data directly into its property listings, a move designed to help prospective buyers assess the cost and availability of early care before committing to a mortgage. The feature, launched in partnership with the online marketplace Winnie, displays licensed early childhood programs alongside standard property details.
The integration draws on Winnie’s database of more than 250,000 licensed early care and education programs across the United States. This data is now accessible on every for-sale listing on Redfin’s mobile and desktop platforms. Isabelle Novak, a Redfin spokesperson, confirmed the feature became available on iOS and Android applications at the end of September 2026. It sits next to the K-12 school ratings provided by GreatSchools, which have appeared on the platform for over a decade.
When users view a property, they see a specific option labeled “Preschool & daycare.” Selecting this tab reveals up to five nearby providers, including center-based, home-based, and school-based programs. The interface displays the age ranges served and the distance from the home. Buyers can click on a provider’s name to view a pop-up containing the address, operating hours, website URL, and information regarding financial assistance and language services. Parent reviews published on Winnie also appear in this view.
For deeper details, users can click through to the provider’s profile on the Winnie website. Sara Mauskopf, CEO and co-founder of Winnie, stated that these profiles may include available slots and tuition rates. Winnie builds these profiles using public state licensing databases. Providers can then claim their pages to add specific information. Mauskopf noted that approximately 25 percent of the 250,000 provider pages on the platform have been claimed by the operators themselves. Active providers frequently update their pages to reflect changes in open spaces, which can fluctuate daily.
Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at Redfin, explained that housing and childcare often represent the two largest expenses for families. He observed that the decision to move often coincides with the arrival of a child. “Searching for a home often coincides with having a child,” Fairweather said. “If you’re trying to do the calculation on how much house you can afford, it’s helpful to know what your childcare options are before committing to that mortgage.”
Mauskopf emphasized that childcare is a necessity rather than a luxury for many young families. She recalled her own experience as a mother of three, where the search for a home focused primarily on price. After moving, she and her husband had to scramble for care at the last minute, considering whether one parent would need to pause work until a slot opened. She argued that this partnership helps families identify potential gaps in care access, a concern that exists in both large metro areas and quiet rural communities.
The feature only displays providers within a 10-mile radius of the property address. If no licensed programs exist within that distance, a message informs the user that no programs were found. Mauskopf referred to such areas as “childcare deserts,” noting that while these locations may be affordable for housing, the lack of care options can be a dealbreaker for families.
Cost remains a key piece of information missing from the initial listing view. Mauskopf acknowledged that many programs still require a tour before sharing prices, a practice she described as unique to the market. However, she noted a recent shift where more providers are posting tuition online. This change is partly driven by families using artificial intelligence tools to find rates. “A lot of providers, for the first time, are willing to list prices online, since AI will just give you an answer anyway,” Mauskopf said. She hopes this trend will continue, allowing the Redfin integration to eventually display complete cost data for buyers.
The integration aims to provide a complete picture of household expenses before a family moves. By combining housing costs with care availability and potential costs, Redfin and Winnie are addressing a critical gap in the traditional home buying process. The data is already live on the platform for all new property searches.
