Apple’s M6 processor contains a 12-core central processing unit, a jump from the 10-core layout in the previous generation. The company announced the chip today as part of a refresh for the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro.

The new laptop was introduced via a press release this morning. It marks the first device to use Apple’s 2nm silicon. The M6 chip also includes a 12-core graphics processor and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple states the processor delivers up to 1.2x faster multithreaded performance than the M5 chip and operates with greater power efficiency.

The device retains the same physical design as the 2025 model. It features three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports that support charging and DisplayPort. A MagSafe 3 port, full-size HDMI output, and an SDXC card slot are also included. The 12MP Center Stage camera and Liquid Retina XDR display remain unchanged.

A key internal upgrade is the addition of the N1 wireless chip. This component provides Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. The N1 chip was previously available only on higher-tier MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro or M5 Max processors.

Pricing for the base model with 16GB of memory remains at $1,999. The starting storage capacity is 1TB. Customers can upgrade to 24GB of memory for $2,199 or 32GB for $2,399. Storage upgrades cost more than last year due to current supply conditions. The 2TB option adds $500 to the price, while the 4TB option adds $1,500.

Preorders for the new MacBook Pro begin on October 28. Apple expects to start shipping the units on November 6.
