Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell told the team Wednesday that he has regained full movement in his lower body. The All-Pro selection is currently recovering in a hospital after sustaining a neck injury during Sunday's game.
Campbell was removed on a backboard early in the fourth quarter of a 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Medical staff found him alert and breathing when they transported him to the facility.
"That's good news. That's positive news," Lions coach Dan Campbell said. "We're all thankful for that."
The former Iowa star said he remains optimistic about his recovery. "I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic," Campbell wrote in a statement. "I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better."
Campbell was selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 draft. Last season, he became the first NFL player in seven years to record 150 or more tackles while also adding at least five sacks and three forced fumbles.
The injury occurred after Campbell hit Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He lay face down on the turf without moving before being strapped to a board and lifted onto a cart.
