The theatrical adaptation of Freida McFadden's bestselling novel will begin its run in London in late 2027. Lionsgate announced the specific tour dates on Sunday, confirming that the world premiere is scheduled for September 14, 2027, at the Richmond Theatre.
The production marks the next phase in the expansion of the franchise, which recently saw a film adaptation starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney. That movie premiered in December 2025 and generated enough box office success to trigger the development of a sequel. The stage play will be written by Tony Award nominee Bekah Brunstetter, while Olivier Award nominee Matthew Dunster will serve as director.
The theatrical run is designed to tour across the United Kingdom, with the final performance planned for April 29, 2028. Representatives for the production have not yet confirmed if the show will extend its tour to North America. The announcement coincides with the ongoing production of the film sequel, based on McFadden's book 'The Housemaid's Secret', which is slated to open in theaters on December 17, 2027.
Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate's president of Global Products and Experiences, noted the sustained interest in the property. "With the stage play debuting next year and our sequel film in production, the momentum behind The Housemaid franchise continues to grow," Brown said in a press release.
The narrative follows Millie, a convicted felon who takes a job as a housemaid for the wealthy Nina Winchester. Millie becomes romantically involved with Nina's husband, Andrew, before uncovering secrets about both employers. These discoveries lead to a series of chaotic events involving violence and murder.
