A new eight-episode microseries titled Power and Influence is now streaming on TikTok and the Boss Up website. The production features Ivory Shields as Nia Whitmore, a CEO who built her company through years of labor. Shields portrays a character who is hesitant to integrate a new artificial intelligence engine into her operations to protect her professional legacy.

Tenia Madan plays Zuri, a Gen Z creative who possesses strong technical expertise. The character is described as ambitious and often underestimated by colleagues. Her knowledge of artificial intelligence and ability to identify deepfakes provide her with a distinct advantage in the workplace. The narrative positions these two women on opposite sides of a debate regarding trust, creativity, and business control.

Shields discussed the role during an interview with Cheryl Jackson on Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell. She described Nia as a mix of Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada and supermodel Naomi Campbell. Shields noted that the character is not very trusting of the new AI technology. She explained that Madan’s character is attempting to convince Nia to see things differently.

The actress pushed back on labeling Nia a villain. She stated that many women may recognize parts of themselves in the character. Nia’s choices are driven by her desire to protect the relationships, business, and legacy she has established over time. Shields said she enjoyed exploring a different side of her acting through this tough personality.

Madan brought much of her own personality to the role of Zuri. She has a genuine interest in technology and previously studied the subject. That background helped her connect with Zuri, particularly when understanding AI concepts. The series explores the tension between generations as they navigate a technology that continues to raise questions about the future of business.

The first four episodes of Power and Influence are currently available for viewing. Madan confirmed during the interview that four additional episodes are scheduled to drop the following Monday. Viewers can watch the series on TikTok through the @bossuptalk handle or visit bossup.com. The production is a microseries available through Boss Up.

The story examines the struggle to stay in control while facing emerging technology. It presents a workplace drama where ambition and tradition collide. The characters represent different approaches to adopting new tools in a competitive environment.

The series is part of a new line of microseries from Urban One. The company entered the market with thrillers including Power and Influence and Foul Play. The current season focuses on the specific dynamic between a senior executive and a junior creative regarding the implementation of AI.
