Drivers in New Mills, Derbyshire, can now access Union Road, Market Street, and St Mary's Road. These routes had been closed following a collision that blocked traffic and required emergency response teams on site.
A double-decker bus crashed into a building at the junction of Union Road and Market Street at 17:20 GMT on Saturday. Derbyshire Police reported that several people suffered minor injuries. Paramedics treated those individuals at the scene of the accident.
A safety cordon remained in place on Saturday due to concerns about a potential gas leak. Cadent, the gas distribution company, stated on Sunday that it had isolated the supply to the damaged pipe. This action allowed authorities to clear the area for traffic.
A structural engineer declared the affected building safe on Sunday. Police also confirmed that the bus has been recovered from the site. The reopening of the roads marks the end of the immediate disruption to local commuters.
Elliott Nelson, network director for Cadent, explained the technical details of the repair. "The service pipe is the pipe which carries gas into a building from the bigger main in the road," he said. He added that his teams checked all gas assets in the vicinity and found no additional impact.
Nelson noted that the priority was making all gas-related infrastructure safe. The company achieved this by isolating the gas supply to the specific damaged pipe only. The isolation prevented any further leak into the surrounding area.
