President Donald Trump will campaign in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday to support Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds. The stop marks a key moment in the final stretch of the midterm campaign cycle.
Donalds is challenging David Jolly, a former Republican congressman who switched parties to run as the Democratic nominee. Polls show Donalds leading, though the race remains competitive.
The 2026 contest differs from the 2022 election, when incumbent Ron DeSantis secured reelection by nearly 20 points. This year, the field includes a former Republican who now represents the opposing party.
Trump is also expected to speak for several Republican congressional candidates. These include Senator Ashley Moody, who is seeking a two-year extension in a special election against State Representative Angie Nixon. DeSantis appointed Moody to the Senate in 2025 after Marco Rubio became Secretary of State.
The Daytona Beach stop also benefits Rep. Randy Fine, a freshman member of the House who represents the local district. Fine took office in April 2025 after winning a special election to replace Mike Waltz, who is now the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Florida voluntarily redrew its congressional map before the midterms. Republicans currently hold 20 of the state's 28 House seats. The redistricting process may increase that total in the upcoming general election.
