Brazilian investigators found that a former Mossad officer helped Senator Flavio Bolsonaro leave the country in violation of a Supreme Court order. The senator, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, crossed into Argentina and flew to the United States shortly after losing the presidential second round on October 25.
The security agency investigation, revealed by CNN Brazil on Friday, identifies the Israeli intelligence officer as a naturalized US citizen. He arrived in Brasília on October 19, six days before the election. He accompanied the senator to the border and stayed in the vehicle during the crossing. Two commercial vans crossed the Tancredo Neves Bridge linking Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú. Security footage captured the vehicles on Tuesday. The senator and the former agent rode in one van, while his wife and two daughters took the second. Drivers included a former municipal council member from Foz do Iguaçu and his son.
Upon reaching Argentina, the family boarded a Gulfstream G400 operated by Baires Fly. The jet refueled in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and landed at Opa-locka Executive Airport near Miami on Wednesday morning. The New York Times reported that Jason Miller, a strategist close to President Donald Trump, helped arrange the aircraft. Argentine newspaper Clarín said Santiago Caputo, an advisor to President Javier Milei, went to the border area to oversee the move and suppress documentation.
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered the confiscation of Bolsonaro's passports and barred his departure after the election defeat by incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The senator faces investigations into money laundering related to gambling platforms and a film about his father. These allegations have not yet been proven in court. The Federal Police stated that no official record of the senator's exit existed at Brazilian border checkpoints.
Brazilian officials described the event as a planned international rescue mission called Operation Alba. They said misleading information about Bolsonaro's location was part of the preparation. The Foreign Ministry summoned Argentina's representative to demand clarifications on the Milei administration's role. In the US, 25 Democratic lawmakers asked the Trump administration to explain if diplomatic resources assisted the escape.
The Federal Police are considering asking the Supreme Court to freeze Bolsonaro's assets and bank accounts. Current findings regarding foreign involvement and the Mossad agent's assistance come from the media-published investigation rather than a final judicial ruling.
