Judge Lauren Adams Ogden will serve a 30-day suspension without pay starting at midnight on Nov. 8. The penalty follows a ruling that found she failed to perform her judicial duties competently and violated laws in multiple cases. The suspension concludes at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 8.

On Monday, demonstrators gathered outside the Jefferson County Judicial Center in Louisville to demand accountability. The protest came in response to the formal action against the family court judge. Several attendees described themselves as directly affected by Ogden’s rulings. One woman stated that her child was removed from the home because Ogden failed to hear her family in court.

The judge’s attorney confirmed that Ogden agreed to the suspension terms. The order requires her to complete an educational course on hearing conduct and due process. She must finish this requirement within six months of the order being issued.

Protesters expressed frustration with the current system. One speaker at the rally said the group has a right to keep their children in their homes. She argued that authorities utilize their positions to victimize families who stand up for their rights.

The judicial ruling cited numerous complaints regarding Ogden’s conduct. The findings specifically noted a lack of competence in her duties. The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of family court procedures in Jefferson County.

The next scheduled step for Ogden is the start of her unpaid leave on Nov. 8. She will also begin the clock on her six-month deadline for the required educational course. The suspension removes her from the bench for the entire month.
