Police in Gibraltar, Michigan, have identified a suspect in connection with a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of Carlson High School on Tuesday, November 3.
The high school serves as the polling place for Brownstown Township Precincts 8 and 11. Officials stated that criminal charges against the identified suspect are expected.
Officers from the Gibraltar Police Department, the Brownstown Township Police Department, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office swept the building. A K9 unit assisted in the precautionary search of the interior.
Voters were relocated to the school’s parking lot during the investigation. Local 4 reported that voting continued in the lot, meaning the process was not fully interrupted. The public was urged to avoid the area while authorities worked.
In a public safety update, officials said they take all threats seriously. They noted that the safety of voters, election workers, and the integrity of the democratic process are of the utmost importance.
Police indicated that voters would be allowed back inside the building once the scene is cleared and the search is complete.
