Tampa Bay Rays fans at Tropicana Field watched their team absorb a 10-1 loss on Monday night, a result that leaves them trailing 3-0 in the World Series. The deficit places the Rays in a historically difficult position, as 21 of the previous 25 teams to fall behind three games to zero in the Fall Classic were swept.

The decisive moment arrived in the fourth inning when Milwaukee batters connected on three consecutive pitches. Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, and Cooper Pratt all reached base, extending a 2-0 lead to 7-0. This sequence was part of a larger offensive explosion where the Brewers recorded eight runs with two outs in a single inning, a World Series record.

Taylor Walls, the Rays shortstop, described the play that started the rally. He said he felt the ball glance off his glove like a "knife in the chest." The ball bounced past him into short center field after Turang hit a 106 mph one-hopper. Walls admitted the error was likely the turning point of the game.

Reliever Cam Booser entered the game and allowed the damage to continue. He was removed after Sal Frelick hit a double that scored Pratt. Cole Sulser then faced David Hamilton and Chourio, allowing a single and a double respectively to close out the inning. The Brewers scored on 17 pitches in that half-inning.

Earlier in the game, the Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Christian Yelich and William Contreras hit RBI singles on consecutive pitches. Contreras was initially called out on a play at second, but the call was reversed after a review, giving him an infield single that loaded the bases.

Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters the team is adopting a "chip and a chair mentality." He noted that the only option remaining is to win the next game. Griffin Jax, who will start Game 4 on Tuesday, said the team will try to sleep off the loss and come back ready to fight.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Boston set the previous World Series record with seven runs with two outs in 2007. San Francisco matched that mark in 2010. The Los Angeles Dodgers hold the all-time postseason record with eight two-out runs, which they scored in 2020.
