Dana Freers secured a six-year term on the 39th District Court by outpacing her opponent, Derek Boedeker, in Tuesday's election. Freers, a private practice attorney, won with 11,433 votes compared to Boedeker's 8,987, a margin of 2,446 votes.
The victory ends the race to replace retiring Judge Joseph Boedeker, who is the father of the defeated candidate. The court serves the communities of Fraser and Roseville.
Freers, 47, is a Fraser resident and Macomb County native who graduated from Cousino High School in Warren. She serves on the board of directors for Macomb County Community Mental Health. She is also active in local service organizations, including the Fraser Lions Club, the Fraser First Booster Club, and the Roseville Optimist Club.
Freers is married to Patrick O’Dell, the Fraser Mayor Pro Tem. In a questionnaire provided to C&G Newspapers, she cited 21 years of local residence and service as preparation for the role. "I’ve handled every type of case that could come before a district court judge, and helped my neighbors every week," she wrote.
Freers could not be reached for comment on the morning after the vote. Boedeker, 33, works as an assistant prosecutor for Macomb County. He grew up in Roseville and now lives in Fraser.
Boedeker posted a thank you message on social media on Wednesday morning. He expressed gratitude to judges, elected officials, and community leaders who endorsed his campaign. "My commitment to our community will never change, nor will my continued pursuit of justice," he wrote.
