Rio Ferdinand said Manchester United should have signed Ezri Konsa before the defender joined Arsenal for 55 million pounds. The former United center back praised Konsa's performance on Sunday, when Arsenal defeated Liverpool 1-0 to record their first win at Anfield since 2012. Ferdinand told his 18-year-old son, Tate, who plays center back in the Brighton academy, to watch the match because of Konsa's efficiency.
Konsa, 29, moved from Aston Villa to Arsenal during the summer transfer window. He entered the starting lineup immediately because William Saliba was injured. Since joining the club, Konsa has been on the field for 13 of Arsenal's 16 games this season. The team has won those 13 matches. His presence has given manager Mikel Arteta additional options in the back line.
Ferdinand spoke about the transfer on his YouTube channel. He described Konsa as a top player and expressed regret that his former club did not secure his services. Ferdinand noted that Konsa has integrated seamlessly into the team and delivered high-level performances. He called the move a major signing for Arsenal.
The former defender expects Saliba to return to the starting lineup once he is fit. Ferdinand predicted that Konsa might move to right-back in that scenario. This would create competition for a place in the side with Jurrien Timber. Ferdinand knows the right-back position well from his own career.
Ferdinand emphasized that Arteta faces difficult choices due to the quality of his current defenders. He stated that finding a place for Saliba is necessary because the player is exceptional. However, he added that Konsa's consistent output makes him a valuable asset regardless of position. The defender is giving Arteta significant headaches because of his impact.
Konsa's immediate success has changed the defensive dynamics at Arsenal. He has contributed to the team's strong start to the season. His performance against Liverpool served as a reminder of his ability to handle high-pressure situations. Ferdinand's comments reflect the view that Konsa was a target for several major clubs before he chose Arsenal.
The former United star remains focused on the current season. He continues to analyze the Premier League through his media platform. His assessment of Konsa adds to the growing recognition of the defender's skill set. The 55 million pound fee has proven to be a strong investment for Arsenal based on recent results.
