LeBron James made 16,000 career field goals on Wednesday night, becoming the first player in NBA history to reach that milestone. He finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists while the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Detroit Pistons 112-106.
The 76ers, who lead the Eastern Conference with an 8-1 record, held off a late rally from Detroit. The Pistons, who sit atop the Central Division with a 6-2 record, closed the gap to six points. With 37 seconds remaining, Jaylen Brown blocked a three-point attempt by Cade Cunningham to secure the victory for Philadelphia.
Brown contributed a season-high 30 points in the win. Joel Embiid added 26 points and 15 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey struggled offensively, scoring a season-low 19 points on 5-of-16 shooting. His 29-point average for the season ranks third in the league, behind only Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry.
For Detroit, Cunningham recorded 26 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds. Duncan Robinson scored 27 points. James made his 16,000th shot with a left-handed runner in the second quarter. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the second-highest total with 15,837 career field goals.
Embiid received a technical foul late in the first half after a review determined he instigated a push with Pistons center Tolu Smith. James also recorded a no-look pass to Adem Bona for a three-point play during the second quarter.
