Gunner Stockton threw four touchdown passes and rushed for a fifth as the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs dismantled No. 12 Mississippi on Saturday night. The 42-7 victory in Oxford, Mississippi, snaps the Rebels' 16-game home winning streak and solidifies Georgia's standing as a top contender for the national title.

Georgia controlled the game from the opening minutes. The Bulldogs converted four opening drives into touchdowns, gaining 72, 96, 61, and 50 yards respectively. Mississippi crossed the midfield line only once during that 22-minute stretch. The lead grew to 28-0 by halftime, with Georgia totaling 298 yards of offense in the first half alone.

Stockton finished 9 of 15 for 186 passing yards. Talyn Taylor provided the primary receiving threat, catching four passes for 140 yards and scoring on receptions of 3, 6, and 65 yards. Ethan Barbour added a 58-yard touchdown catch. The ground game proved equally effective, as Georgia rushed for 295 yards. Nate Frazier led the rushing attack with 107 yards on 16 carries, while Craig Dandridge Jr. and Stockton each added rushing touchdowns.

Mississippi's offense stalled under pressure. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 18 of 34 passes for 170 yards but was sacked five times and threw one interception. Shekai Mills-Knight was the only Rebel to score, finding the end zone on an 8-yard run. The team was held to just 252 total yards of offense.

Head coach Kirby Smart credited the team's aggressive approach for the decisive outcome. “A total team effort. I thought we embraced the challenge right from the start,” Smart said. “We talked about being the hunter and being aggressive and I thought we did that.” He noted that the win marks his first in Oxford in three attempts.

Mississippi coach Pete Golding acknowledged the disparity in performance between the two sides. “Georgia is a really good team but I did not see that butt-whipping coming,” Golding said. “It was obvious that we (coaches) did not have the team ready to play.” Chambliss admitted the start was “embarrassing” but emphasized the need for a “short memory about this.”

The result changes the dynamics of the College Football Playoff race. With No. 1 Miami losing to No. 4 Notre Dame, Georgia joins Notre Dame and unbeaten Utah as contenders for the top spot in the AP Top 25 and CFP rankings. Safety KJ Bolden stated, “It means we are in the hunt for whatever. This win means a lot.”

Georgia will host No. 19 Missouri next Saturday to maintain momentum. Mississippi travels to Oklahoma over the same weekend. The Rebels must now hope their third loss does not eliminate them from playoff consideration, joining a crowded field of SEC teams with similar records.

Defensive tackle Chris Cole recorded nine tackles, two quarterback hurries, one and a half sacks, and one and a half tackles for loss. The win also improves Georgia's position in the Southeastern Conference standings, where they now sit at 6-1.
