President Donald Trump visited the Lincoln Memorial on Monday to mark the completion of repairs to the Reflecting Pool, a day before the 2026 midterm elections.

The President traveled from the White House to the memorial to announce that the Interior Department had finished the restoration project, which officials said took months to complete. He credited the department staff for the work and stated the pool is now better and more beautiful than it has ever been. Trump also repeated his claim that vandalism had contributed to the damage requiring repair.

Using the event as a platform for his final campaign message, the President described the upcoming vote as the most important midterm election in a lifetime. He characterized the Democratic Party's candidate slate as the most extreme and dangerous in American history. Trump urged voters to decide which party would control Congress for the next two years.

Polls indicate that the high cost of living is the top concern for voters this cycle. Trump did not address inflation or daily expenses during his remarks. Instead, he emphasized his view that the U.S. economy is strong and resilient.

Historical data shows that the party in power typically loses seats during midterm elections. Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in Congress. Trump and party leaders are attempting to defy that historical trend. Recent polling points to a strong performance for Democrats in the 2026 race.
